APPLY FOR THE MLSOC SCHOLARSHIPS BY MARCH 1ST!

We want all our students to have the opportunity to receive an MLSoC Undergraduate Student Scholarship! We offer a broad array of scholarships for in-state, out-of-state, merit based and need based. Applicants are required to have their 2021 Academic Year FAFSA applications fully submitted by March 1st as well.

Project Management Team Places 1st at ASC Competition

On February 5th, The Myers-Lawson School of Construction sent three student teams to the Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition and Construction Management Conference in Reno, Nevada. 21 students represented the Myers-Lawson School of Construction and competed against numerous universities across the United States. The Project Management Team consisting of Joe O’Neal, Brian Maloney, Matt O’Neill, Kurtis Meyer, John Weiss, Johnny Micka and Alley LaBossiere walked away with a 1st place win for Virginia Tech. 

Giving Back Globally

Its always great to connect our students to opportunities that allow them to travel abroad, immerse themselves in different cultures and practice their construction skills. Over winter break, a group of students traveled to Peru while another group traveled to Rwanda.

Summer Internship Spotlight: Matthew O'Neill

Matthew O’Neill, a senior majoring in Construction Engineering and Management, spent his summer in the place with more hours of daylight than anywhere else in the United States. He interned with Kiewit’s Northwest District in Anchorage, Alaska. The Northwest District is one of the top leaders in heavy construction. He specifically worked on the Petroleum and Cement Terminal Project.              
 

VCEMP Alumni Wins Prestigious CMAA Award

Pardis Pishdad-Bozorgi was recently awarded the national, prestigious 'Educator of the Year Award' by the National Construction Management Association of America. 

She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech's VCEMP, Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program in 2012. She also earned a Master of Design Studies in Project Managment and Real Estate from Harvard University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Tehran. 

Summer Internship Spotlight: Holly White

    Holly White is a senior majoring in Construction Engineering and Management at Virginia Tech. Holly spent her summer working with CBG Building Company whose headquarters are located just outside of Washington, D.C. but has multiple locations throughout the United States.

Summer Internship Spotlight: Megan Golinowski

Megan Golinowski is a senior majoring in Construction Engineering and Management at Virginia Tech. Megan spent her summer working for a general contractor based in Ijamsville, Maryland. Megan worked directly with the Project Engineer and Superintendent of Dustin Construction, Inc. and was on-site for the rennovations and addition to Langley High School in McLean, Virginia. 

Spring 2018 Hard-Hatting Ceremony

The Myers-Lawson School of Construction held their semi-annual Hard-Hatting Ceremony on Friday, May 11, 2018. The ceremony recognizes graduating undergraduates in Building Construction, Construction Engineering and Management, Masters and Doctoral graduates in Building Construction as well as The Vecellio Construction and Engineering and Management Program. 

2015 CEM Graduate Honored as 2018 New Face of Civil Engineering by ASCE

The American Society of Civil Engineering has honored Casie Venable as a 2018 New Face of Civil Engineering. Venable graduated from Virginia Tech in 2015, where she earned a dual degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management. Venable is currently a Ph.D. Student at the University of Colorado Boulder studying Civil, Environment, and Architectural Engineering.
